The current Northampton Health Service will celebrate 30 years of existence in October 2006. Until June 1995 it was classified as an ‘A’ class, 8 bed model hospital. In July 1995 it became a Multi Purpose Service (MPS) under a Board of Management, until Regionalisation in July 2002. In 1997 an 8 bed ‘Ageing in Place’ residential unit, ‘Brookview’ was completed.

Northampton Kalbarri Health Service (NKHS) is one of the initial three pilot Multi Purpose Services in WA. It consists of two sites, which service the entire Northampton Shire (Northampton Health Service and Kalbarri Health Centre). The NKHS is part of the Midwest and Murchison Health Region under the management of a Regional Director for the WA Country Health Service. 

The NKHS provides services aimed to treat emergencies, prevent illness, promote health, support individuals/families in their homes, reduce the impact of disease or trauma, and to maintain independence and quality of life. These services include:

• Acute and Emergency Care
• Community Care including community care nursing, home care, home maintenance, meals on wheels, and social support
• Day Centre Service for older adults who are socially isolated 
• Aged Care Facilities
• Palliative Care
• Community Health, including an immunisation clinic on Wednesdays
• Patient Assisted Travel Scheme (PATS)
• Allied Health services (either located on-site or visiting): physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology, dietetics and nutrition, social work, podiatry, and asthma education
• Health promotion
• Telehealth facilities
• Mental Health (visiting service)
• COMPARI (as-needed visiting service offering support, advice and education on drug and alcohol issues for individuals, families and groups)
